Using boiling hot water
Water at its boiling point will scorch the Matcha, causing it to taste bitter.
The perfect water temperature is actually below boiling point, about 70-80 degrees Celsius.
Pro tip: boil water as per normal, then add a little room-temperature water to bring the temperature down slightly.
Not using a sieve
As Matcha comes in powdered form, it has a tendency to clump unless sieved.
Using a mesh sieve allows you to achieve the fine, lump-free powder required for preparing a smooth cup of Matcha.
Not keeping Matcha in the fridge after opening
Stirring Matcha with a spoon
A spoon not only fails to aerate the Matcha, it also collects the powder into clumps.
Pro tip: use a bamboo whisk to get Matcha smooth and frothy - it only takes about 30s of whisking.
Drinking culinary grade Matcha
Not all Matcha is made the same.
Mass market Matcha in stores is typically 'culinary'grade.
These are machine-ground, and are often grainy with a bitter aftertaste.
In comparison, good Matcha (typically 'ceremonial' grade) is slow-ground in stone or ceramic mills.
This results in a small particle size, and a silky-smooth mouthfeel.
When drinking Matcha, make sure you pick the right type of Matcha!
Here's how we can help.
Expensive prices, excessive sugar, grainy lattes, and bland Matcha... no Matcha lover deserves that.
We believe you should be able to enjoy healthy and delicious Matcha whenever you want.
And - without burning a hole in your wallet!
That's why we started Craft Tea Fox. To make high-quality Matcha accessible, affordable, and easy - so you can enjoy Matcha on your terms.
Make better Matcha, easier.
We first started out drinking grocery store Matcha, because it was cheaper.
But, grocery store Matcha was bitter and grainy.
Due to mass commercialisation, grocery store-Matcha has just become the cheapest Matcha available.
We believe Matcha isn't a commodity where cheapest is the best.
Neither do we believe Matcha is an otherworldly green elixir that should cost an arm and leg.
Instead, we believe in offering Matcha good enough for the everyday.
That's why we offer top-quality Matcha, without breaking the bank. With our easy recipes, beginner-friendly guides, and incredible after-sales support, we'll help you recreate the Matcha you love - at a fraction of the price.
A great-tasting drink - that's actually healthy
It all started out in a 7-11.
We needed something to quench our thirst, but, our choices were either sugar-filled or unpalatable.
It didn't seem right that these were our only options.
So we began searching for a great-tasting drink, that was actually healthy.
We soon learnt that Matcha was actually one of the most potent superfoods on the planet. And one of the most delicious too.
Perks of making our own Matcha
We used to get Matcha lattes from cafes. But they were expensive due to rental, manpower, etc.
We found making our own Matcha was way cheaper. Our Matcha lattes now cost a fraction of getting it from a cafe.
It's also more convenient. Now, we no longer waste time queuing. We make our own lattes whenever and where ever we want.
And, we know exactly what's in our latte - milk, sugar, etc. No extra fees for less ice.
We didn't realise how easy it was - until we tried it ourselves.
Over time, we realised it was possible to make cafe-quality Matcha at home - simply by using quality Matcha.
That’s why we're so passionate about sharing this with you.
By making high-quality, healthy Matcha easy and accessible, we hope you'll experience the same awakening we did, too.
And we want to do this in a way that is honest and environmentally sustainable. So it's not just great for your health, but also for our planet.
Sieve Matcha to get rid of Matcha clumps in your drink. Clumps don't taste good.
Unlike green tea, real Matcha doesn't dissolve. That's why Matcha is whisked with a Japanese Matcha whisk.
Mix it with milk and sugar, if you want. Then enjoy - that's it. It's that simple!
Our Secret to Great Tasting Matcha
Uji Matcha is cultivated in Uji, Kyoto - the Matcha capital of the world.
As suppliers of Japanese feudal nobility, Uji’s tea farmers have perfected their craft over centuries.
This, combined with Uji’s enviable geography of fertile soil and sloping hills, makes Uji Matcha sweeter than Matcha from elsewhere.
